Zack Kessler, son of Marci and David Kessler of Livingston, left on Friday, February 26, to become a foreign exchange student in Chile for a semester. He had no idea the excitement he would face. His parents reported that his first night in Chile was interrupted by one of the most powerful natural disasters in recorded history, an earthquake which registered 8.8 on the Richter scale. Zck is safe, his mother reported but has felt more than 100 aftershocks.
"We're trying to figure out whether to take him home or not," she added. Marci Kessler reported that her son has been accepted to his first choice boarding school for the fall. He had travelled to Chile to learn about a different culture and study Spanish. "We're trying to find something to equal that," Marci Kessler said. "There is no program for him in Chile now so he's in limbo. He's doing what he can to help."
