Wet Or Dry

So the 3 year old has been bugging me for weeks about going to bed in underwear instead of a nighttime diaper. I’ve been saying “no” to her request for a few reasons: 1) her diaper, in the morning, is saturated 2) I don’t want to wake up in the middle of the night to change a sheet when she invariably goes 3) I’m afraid she’ll trip and hurt herself on the four stairs leading up to the bathroom. And maybe, just maybe, I want to hold on to a tiny shred of her babyhood.

Ok, so the last one is selfish (but she’s growing up SO fast!). And I fully realize that it's wrong. I, therefore, agreed to let her try tonight. I have a folded up towel on top of her sheet. And on top of that I placed another sheet that she’s laying on. This way, if she does go, it’ll be fast and easy to make the bed comfortable again. And she doesn’t have a sippy cup. No water in, maybe no water out. Lastly, there’s a gate leading downstairs and a night light in the bathroom.

She can do it. I know she can. But just in case she can’t, and it’s no big deal, I’m ready. And if she does make it...I'll have to deal with it. That's what moms do, I guess.
