Two teenagers from West Orange have been charged with burglary in connection with a spree of malicious damage in the Bel Air Woods, a new development in Livingston under construction off East Mt. Pleasant Avenue. Three other West Orange teens have been charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. The names of the juveniles have been withheld due to their ages.
The incidents began on April 29, at about 5 p.m. Shama Kanal of 6 Jason Lane told police that a group of teenagers began banging on the front door of her home and ringing the doorbell. The youths then went to the back door. The homeowner yelled at the youths who fled the area. Investigating officers believed that the youths had intended to break into the house and the teenagers were later charged with conspiracy to commit burglary in connection with the incident.
The next day, construction workers at 17 Lafayette Drive reported that teenagers had been trespassing in a house under construction at 5 Jason Lane.
