Livingston firefighters answered dozens of calls related to a massive power surge in the early hours of Tuesday morning, January 24.
Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Francione stated that fire officials received more than 60 9-1-1 calls beginning at 3:20 a.m. The calls involved reports of smoke and power issues in residences. He explained that a power surge had blown out computers, televisions and other electrical items at houses in the township. In one case, a home's washer and dryer were destroyed as a result of the surge. The incident, which affected homes on and to the west of Hillside Avenue, also caused problems in East Hanover.
