August 26, 2009 A Tribute

My husband, Joe, wrote the following in an email to our children early this morning:
"I am very sad today... an era has come to an end... the last liberal icon has died and I don't know who will pick up the mantle?? I have followed the Kennedy's since 1959. I was 14 years old when John started running for president. I have never stopped being a fan of this brave family. I will never forget when Ted went into the Senate, or when he ran for president and yes, I will never forget the personal situations that made news. One great joy, with Ted Kennedy... Dana actually working for him... I never would have thought, as a boy, that my children would actually work on the Hill (Joey, Dana and Hannah) and one for Ted Kennedy. I will never forget when I drove him to a labor rally for (then NJ Governor) McGreevey. You know, after all the tragedy the family experienced, Ted could have lived his life in the shadows, but chose to continue pursuing the "dream". I am sad today, because America has lost the last champion for those who are less fortunate. We have lost a man who truly attempted to make the lives of people better. America has lost a man who truly attempted to make the lives of people better. America has lost a giant who fought for equality and fairness..... Who will pick up the mantle?? Papa"

Congratulations, Marilyn!
Livingston Symphony Orchestra to Feature Hickory Tree Chorus Member

The Livingston Symphony Orchestra (LSO) opens its season on Saturday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m., and makes its debut at the newly renovated Livingston High School auditorium. More than two years have passed since the orchestra last played in the town whose namesake it bears. Maestro Istvan Jaray, who will lead the orchestra throughout the season, states, “I hope our return to Livingston will garner recognition and appreciation from the town’s residents. This is a great orchestra that they have.”

Dubbed “Magnificent Masterworks,” the November 7 concert begins with Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture and concludes with Saint-Saens’ Symphony No. 3, popularly known as the “Organ Symphony,” featuring guest organist Marilyn Fiordaliso.

Mrs. Fiordaliso is the proprietor of Fiordaliso Music Studio, providing private piano and voice instruction for over 40 years to Livingston area musicians. She is a member of the Hickory Tree Chorus chapter of Sweet Adelines International, MENC, The Voice Care Network, American Choral Directors Association and NJ Music Educators.

Livingston High School is located 30 Robert H. Harp Drive, Livingston, NJ, accessible from South Livingston Avenue to Civic Center Road.

Yes...this is Barbara. We meet every Wednesday evening at 6:45 pm at the Hanover Manor in East Hanover. By that time someone else will be doing the programs and I will pass it along to them...or I can be your liaison. It would be an awesome program though and very festive especially around holiday season. Do you ask for donations?

Ok...the reason why I ask is that I am the program chair for the Livingston Kiwanis...we are always seeking out organizations to donate to and if Voices to Go was a not-for-profit or heavily reliant on donations, than I could see if you could do a mini-program. Kiwanis is always looking for interesting program. Let me know if you fit that profile. I still have prime dates open for September and October. I also have prime dates open for now as well, but I am sure you are on some sort of recess for the fall. If not, let me know.
