Our animals are OUR family until they become YOURS.

Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter is a non-profit animal welfare organization that is 100% privately funded. Founded in 1972, we welcome orphaned cats and dogs as room permits.

Our mission is threefold:

To provide exceptional care for homeless animals
To promote spaying/neutering, microchipping and humane education
To place homeless cats and dogs in permanent, loving homes

Quality veterinary care, microchipping, pediatric spay/neuter and kennel enrichment are provided for every animal in our care, and at Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, no animal is ever euthanized for lack of space.

Looking for a special type of dog? Become a member for $35 for adult dogs or for puppies and for the next three months we will do our best to locate one for you. Please come down to the shelter and ask the staff for more information.

You love animals, but can’t adopt? Come on down to the shelter and choose the cat or dog that you would like to sponsor. For as little as $20 per month, you can sponsor a pet and help pay for the cost of their care while they stay at the shelter.

Mt. Pleasant is extending our Adoption Hours as of May 1:

* Tuesday & Thursday, 12-7

* Wednesday & Friday, 12-4

* Saturday and Sunday, 12-5

* Closed Mondays and all major holidays

Mt. Pleasant is closed to the public in the mornings so that the staff can clean and feed our animals. This allows us to better service you when we are open for adoptions. We appreciate your understanding.

We had just lost our dear Daphne, a yellow lab also, and couldn't bear to be without a dog in our lives. When we brought him home he was so unused to being in a home he had to be crated when we went to work and at almost 2 years old needed puppy classes! I am so very proud to say that he now is a certified therapy dog, visiting the traumatically brain injured. Seamus is the light of our lives. I want to thank everyone at Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter for saving this dog from being euthanized in Kentucky. You are the gaurdians of angels!
