For the second consecutive year, the Livingston Police Department is offering local children a chance to cast their votes to determine which movie will be shown at the township's second "National Night Out" observance on Tuesday, August 3. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at dusk. Children will be able to cast their votes for one of family-friendly films listed below.
Votes will be counted until midnight on Tuesday, July 27. The winning movie, to be shown at the Night Out event, will be announced in the West Essex Tribune's July 29 edition. To kick off the 2010 National Night Out, the children of Livingston are invited to design a National Night Out poster. Prizes will be awarded for the best poster in each of the following categories: ages 5-7, ages 8-10, ages 11-13, and ages 14-16. All posters will be displayed at National Night Out and the winners will be announced during the event.
The National Night Out nationwide theme is "Give neighborhood crime and drugs a going away party." Therefore, pictures should contain the theme of a unified community working together to get rid of crime and drugs. The poster can be made with any drawing or painting materials or combination thereof (crayon, paint, pencil, etc.) on paper. Collages of magazines or newsprint are not permitted. Posters may be submitted on either an 11"x17" or 12"x18" sheet of paper. The entrant’s name, age, address and phone number must be on the back of the poster. Your poster may be brought to the Livingston Police Department at 333 S. Livingston Avenue on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Please come into the lobby of police headquarters and ask for Valerie Thomas. You may also mail your poster to: Livingston Police Department, 333 S. Livingston Ave., Livingston, NJ 07039, Attention: Valerie Thomas. The deadline for the contest is July 30, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.
