Kiwanis of Livingston left a comment for AFS in LivingstonAFS has been active in Livingston for over 30 years. Many people remember the AFS Flea Market behind the high school which was our major fundraiser for many years. People may also remember the “AFS Bus Stop” when international students came to Livingston in early July and stayed 3-5 days with Livingston families. LHS graduates may remember the AFS student that graduated with them after spending the senior year at LHS.
AFS provides opportunities for high school students to live with a family in one of 55 countries around the world and spend a summer, semester or year abroad. There are programs for home-stays, language study and community service as well as programs for University study in a few countries. Students will hone their language skills and develop life skills at the same time.
Families in Livingston have the opportunity to host a foreign teenager too. Each year we place international AFS students with families who broaden their horizons through learning about how the students live in their home country. The AFS goal is to create peace in the world through international understanding…..one student at a time!
