| Mental Attitude: Does Exercise Boost Endorphins in Those With Fibromyalgia? Exercise helps restore the body's neuro-chemical balance and triggers a positive emotional state. Not only does regular exercise slow down the heart-racing adrenaline associated with stress, but it also boosts levels of natural endorphins, (pain-fighting molecules that may be responsible for the well-known "runner's high.") Endorphins have been shown to help reduce anxiety, stress, and depression. Fibromyalgia Network: "Treatment Studies."Arthritis Foundation: "Fibromyalgia: Treatment Options." American Academy of Family Physicians: "Fibromyalgia and Exercise." Health Alert: Unhealthy US Children. Asthma is the most common chronic disorder among children affecting 9.9 million kids under 18. 9.3% of kids have asthma. National Health Interview Survey Data, 2006 Diet: Factors That Cause Overeating And Weight Gain: #1) Sights, Sounds, and Smells. Overeating can be triggered by the alluring smell of bacon cooking, the sound of popcorn popping, advertisements for junk food, and so on. You are influenced by your surroundings, and studies show these kinds of cues result in eating more food. #2) Distracted Eating. "Eating amnesia" is the act of almost unconsciously putting food in your mouth, usually from a big bag or bowl while sitting in front of the television, reading a book, checking e-mails, or during happy hour. Multi-tasking can lead to overeating because you're not paying attention to what you are eating. When you eat more mindfully, you really taste the food -- and are more likely to feel satisfied sooner. Cornell University researcher Brian Wansink, PhD, author of Mindful Eating. Exercise: Stop Working Out? It takes twice as long to lose new muscle if you stop working out than it did to gain it. However, lazy people shouldn't use this as motivation to not work out. It's relatively easy to build new muscle tissue and get your muscles in shape, so get off the couch and start moving. :) Chiropractic: Lumbar Supports? NO. The US Preventive Services Task Force and The Working Group on European Guidelines for Prevention of Low Back Pain DO NOT recommend using lumbar supports or back belts. American Family Physician, 2007 Wellness/Prevention: A Second Chance? Every year about 98% of the atoms in your body are replaced so taking care of yourself by eating right, exercising, minimizing stress, and getting proper rest is essential in allowing for a healthy turnover of your body's cells.
