Township employees are slated to receive a max (pending reviews) 2% merit increase with the new pending budget. I'm wondering how much lower the tax increase would be if salaries were frozen for one year?

I have not seen anything in the budget or in print regarding salary increases but if it exists - I stand corrected.

I am sure it would have been front page news and there would have been plenty of commentary. Freeze on increases and on hiring! Too many people are pinched already by the taxes. NJ has highest real estate taxes in the country! And #2 is quite a bit lower. But if there is no pushback from the public and no retribution at the ballot bax, the pols will continue to take the easy road and spend, spend, spend. The pols have the deck stacked against the citizens so completely that there are no choices offered by either party, and there are no organized independents. Witness the most recednt primary election!
I believe this weeks headline of WET is wrong. The township budget was not approved by the Town Council. They support it , but it was not approved. The budget was put on hold pending the state budget outcome and will be taken up on at the July 12th town council meeting.
if we didnt pay for fireworks and the dragon rollar coaster on 4th of july could we have free middle school sports?
I'd also like to see staff salary freezes vs 1-2% raises this year. At the township meeting last Monday night - the biggest concern by the majority in the room was rear yard garbage pickup. Nothing else appeared to matter more.

Everyone wants all the perks without paying for it. Biggest complaint besides taxes being so high - yet we only see 20% of the voting residents out on election day and at most 18% voting on the BOE budget this year.

What are we going to do with a tax increase cap of 2.5% next year if Gov Christie gets this approved?
